Boxing Program

The United Community Center (UCC) Boxing Program currently has 200 members under the age of 18. Members come from throughout southeast Wisconsin. Over the past 45 years, we’ve built a world-class program, led by Israel “Shorty” Acosta, a member of the U.S. Olympic Boxing coaching staff and a representative on the 1984 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team.

In 2000 and 2016 Israel was also a member of the U.S. Olympic coaching and training staff. Israel has assembled a dedicated team of assistant coaches and parents who help to instill dedication, perseverance, and character in the youths as they find their voices through athletic pursuits. Several junior champions and contenders competed for a spot on the 2016 USA Olympic Boxing Team, nearly reaching their goal.

This program continues to be one of the most successful athletic and youth development programs in Milwaukee. The program not only trains participants to be champions in the ring, but also champions in life. Through hard work and dedication our athletes not only learn the fundamentals of boxing but develop positive work ethics and improved self-esteem.

The UCC Boxing Program is sponsored by Catholic Financial Life.
